This three-day workshop is designed to equip participants with the technical and practical skills required to produce professional-quality video interviews. Aimed at stakeholders and participants working on behalf of partner organizations, the workshop covers everything from planning and capturing interviews to editing and finalizing the content according to specific remit guidelines.

Daily Breakdown

Day 1: Planning and Preparation

  • Understanding the Remit: Participants start by discussing the purpose and audience of the video, ensuring a clear vision for the project.
  • Deconstructing Exemplars: Reviewing successful examples to understand key elements that make an effective interview.
  • Developing Interview Questions: Crafting questions that conform to a predetermined story arc, ensuring a cohesive narrative flow.
  • Logistics Planning: Finalizing details on filming locations, equipment needs, and scheduling to ensure a smooth production process.
  • Capturing B-roll: Participants learn about and capture B-roll footage, which provides visual diversity and enriches the storytelling in the final video.

Day 2: Capturing Content

  • Conducting Interviews: Learning the technical and communication skills necessary for conducting compelling interviews.
  • Role Rotation: Participants rotate roles as interviewer, interviewee, camera operator, and audio engineer to gain hands-on experience in all aspects of production.
  • Media Management: At the end of the day, participants begin organizing and backing up captured media.
  • Ingesting Media: Early ingestion of media into the editing system allows participants to review all captured footage, including interviews and B-roll, preparing for the editing process.

Day 3: Editing and Finalizing

  • Team Editing: Participants break into smaller teams, each responsible for editing different sections of the planned video. This collaborative effort ensures comprehensive coverage and variety in the final product.
  • Rough Cut Screening: Teams compile their edited sections into a single rough cut, which is screened for feedback and preliminary approval, ensuring it meets the project’s objectives.

Follow-up

After the workshop, final titles and subtitles are added to the videos, ensuring they are broadcast-ready.
