Overview
Located in a quiet residential neighborhood free from urban distractions, The StoryLab offers a tranquil and focused environment ideal for digital literacy and media production. The facility is founded on the principle that physical spaces are crucial to the learning process. Stepping into The StoryLab does not invoke the traditional power dynamics of a classroom; instead, it encourages an egalitarian approach to learning and creating. Each space is intentionally designed to facilitate engagement with content and collaboration among participants, reflecting a methodology honed over 26 years at the University of Hong Kong. There, I led the development of multiple multimedia classrooms and established the university’s Digital Literacy Lab, bringing the best practices from these experiences to create an ideal environment for our work here.

- High-Capacity Local Area Network: Our network can handle intensive projects, with capacity for several terabytes of temporary storage, ensuring smooth handling of large-scale media projects.
- Cutting-Edge Connectivity: We feature the latest WiFi standards and a robust 2 Mbps internet connection, accommodating all online learning and production needs.
- Comprehensive Recording Tools: A wide selection of recording devices is available, along with a seemingly endless supply of cables and connectors, no matter how obscure, ensuring that all technical needs are met on-site.
- Model Networking and Automation Tools: Our setup includes advanced networking and automation capabilities, allowing for efficient management of media and information databases.
Spaces
Ideation Space
Designed to foster creativity and planning, equipped with a large whiteboard, a 75-inch screen connected to a computer, spacious worktable and chairs, and enhanced video conferencing tools.
Production Space
Features movable workstations that adapt to various projects, allowing the area to transform from a standard workspace to a large production setting as needed.
Capture Space
Optimized for audio quality with acoustic insulation and non-parallel walls, ideal for projects where sound clarity is critical.
Reflection Space
A comfortable area with a sofa for reviewing work, holding discussions, or celebrating the completion of projects in a relaxed atmosphere.
Recharge Space
Our kitchen, stocked with refreshments and snacks, provides a cozy spot for breaks and informal interactions.
Outdoor Breathing Space
A pleasant outdoor setting with seating for coffee breaks and fresh air, enhancing the overall welcoming atmosphere of The StoryLab.
